Hi. My name is Cathy and I am a
breast cancer survivor for 12 years! At the time I was
diagnosed I was almost 35 years old and I had a 2 year old
and a 4 year old. The doctors at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center
in Houston treated me for inflammatory carcinoma. Because of
my age they treated me very aggressively with four rounds of
chemo before surgery and four after followed by 33 radiation
treatments. I had a segmental mastectomy with removal of
some lymph nodes.
I just recently got back from my annual checkup and once
again I got a clean bill of health.
I must admit though, the one thing that probably got me
through my trying time with cancer was the fact that my
husband of 10 years left me during the worst time of my
life. But I was determined that I would live to see my kids
grow up, not him, and that is exactly what I'm doing. My son
is now 14 and daughter is 16. They both keep me busy and
when I'm not following one of their activities I am playing
golf. I'm still single after all this time but everyday I am
thankful that I am a SURVIVOR!
