Daughter of Breast Cancer Survivor

Michelle

I was only 11 years old when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.   At any age the thought of cancer is scary.   Let alone your mom.   My father was not in the picture at the time… It was always me and mom.   Together we could make it through anything, and this was another case of making it.   I held her hand through chemo.   I held the bucket when she got sick.   I brushed her hair as it fell out.   And a lot of hugs and kisses.  From me to her and her to me.

There's a lot of details I am leaving out, for most know the pain that the family and friends go through.   But for us there was the rainbow on the other side and Thank God  for him holding our hands to be strong and seeing us through it.  My mom made it.  I looked to her as the strongest women in the world.  As I got older I met a lot of those strong women.  And Thank God for each and every one of them.   And in my prayers are all the one ‘s who were not as lucky as my mom.   Like my great grandma… She lost her battle to cancer.   Anything that gets us closer to the solution I am for and I will do whatever it takes to make sure that my children  don’t have to go through the struggle to survive.

This is not a winning story… But my thoughts are with all of you.

Michelle

Thanks Michelle.  Your story is a winning story, as is anybody that faces a potentially terminal illness.  Sometimes I think watching those we love suffer through illness is tougher than when it happens to us.  - Kim
